Composition book, 3 pencil with eraser, student planner, spiral and paper.
Homework must be completed daily for success in this class. Two consecutive missed assignments will result in a guardian contact.
Arrival
Walk directly to your seat, prepare your desktop, and begin the warm-up activity.
Passes
3 restroom passes per semester are given to each student. Unused passes are redeemable for extra credit at the end of the semester. To use a pass, sign and date the pass from your class information sheet. Raise your hand until Ms. Dinh has an opportunity to sign your pass. You will not be allowed to leave class without a pass so utilize them only in emergencies.
Questions
When Ms. Dinh asks a question, it is for every student in the class. Raise your eyes to the question and listen intently. You will often be asked to respond in writing. At other times, Ms. Dinh will call on a student after a short pause. This pause is for everyone to think about the answer and is not for students to call out the answer. Calling out answers will result in 5 points being subtracted from your grade.
Grading homework
Use a different colored pencil or pen to mark problems incorrect with a check mark. Circle the part of the problem where you made a mistake. Show your work for the corrected solutions in the margin next to the problem(s) that you missed. Be sure to show all work. ALL mistakes must be corrected.
When you finish your work early
If your work for the day is completely finished, double-check it for mistakes. Then use your time to quietly organize your notebook or review for the next exam. You may then finish work from another class or read a book. Talking with others about items unrelated to the assignment is distracting and unacceptable.
Keeping your notebook
It is your job to keep your notebook updated. Notebook will be collected every Friday and is worth 30 points each week. Your notebook may NEVER leave the classroom unless you have permission. Everything should be dated, completed, and files in the appropriate section. If it is not in the notebook, it is a zero
Responding to my request for your attention
1) Freeze (stop whatever you are doing)
2) Turn and face Ms. Dinh with your eyes on her; pay attention and keep your eyes on her
3) Be ready for instruction. Ms. Dinh will have something to say.
When your desk mate is absent
Take especially good notes and be prepared to help him or her understand the material upon their return to class including key explanations. Take an extra copy of any worksheets or handouts for you desk mate. Write their name at the top and any additional instructions and staple them in their notebook.
Working cooperatively
Quickly form your group of 2, 3, or 4 students and begin the assigned task together. All group members should face each other, moving desks if necessary. Show your group members respect by listening to them attentively when they are speaking. If Ms. Dinh needs your attention, notify your group members and turn to face her.
Dismissal
The bell does not dismiss you. Continue working on current task until dismissed directly by Ms. Dinh. Students attempting to leave will be held after class and make up time after school as appropriate.
When you need help
Attend after school or before school tutoring sessions. Notify Ms. Dinh immediately if you are lost or having problems and he will do everything possible to help you succeed.
An emergency alert
Earthquake: quickly crawl underneath your desk or table and cover your head. Be sure that your entire body is under cover. Be quiet to listen for further instructions. Fire: immediately stop what you are doing, be quiet to listen for instructions, and follow the leader through designated evacuation route. Leave your book and materials behind.
Progress reports
If you receive a progress report, immediately contact Ms. Dinh outside of class to arrange a plan to improve your math performance and grade. You will be required to attend tutoring sessions until improvement is shown.
